Hi
I'm from Romania. Below is a tracking number RE619457615GR for a letter which I have to receive it from Greece. The sender mailed it on 29 December 2016 to Romania. Today is 12 January 2017 and all looks weird if check on the TrackIt site. The letter arrived and was delivered in Romania in... 2007, but at the same time, looks to be still on its way being sent in abroad from Athene on January 4, 2017, and didn't arrive in Romania. I'm wondering if ever will arrive!?

What do you think is happening? I myself have an own theory but I love you if you'll tell me yours, please.

Best regards, Gheorghe

Hi
Thank you and you are right, Konstantin.
ELTA, the Greek Post used an old tracking number.
Is it good or wrong? There is an impact on the correct postal traffic? I don't know but a postal administration must always use new numbers. There are 9 figures in the tracking number and can make billions of the combinations, of course, somebody must be in charge with it or is convenient to do nothing in the Greek post? Or the Romanian Post still keep the old garbage in their home? In the both cases, they are doing mistakes, and unfortunately, the end user is paying for their incompetence.
Regards
Gheorghe

its normal when postals use old numbers, because of the UPU rules.
Postals can use number again if it was issued at least year ago. so one number could be used every year.

format of the UPU number has next structure:
2 digits service [R@, C@, E@ etc]
5 digits office number
3 digits serial number of the item
1 check digit
2 digits country code [GR, RO etc]

so there's only serial numbers used for parcels rotation.
